Abduction and Tragic End

Ron Benjamin, a 53-year-old Israeli, was abducted by Hamas on the morning of October 7, just before the Gaza war began. Hagari disclosed that Benjamin was killed by Hamas terrorists near Mefalsim on the same day he was taken captive. The tragic news of his death was delivered to his family after his body was recovered in an overnight operation alongside those of the previously recovered hostages, Gelerenter, Buskila, and Louk.

Family Communication and Last Moments

According to reports, Benjamin last made contact with his family at 7:30 am on October 7. He left a voice message for one of his daughters, who was travelling abroad, informing her that he was heading back home to Rehovot from a planned bike ride near the Gaza border due to the escalating rocket attacks. Benjamin had set out at 6:30 am to join friends for a bike ride near Kibbutz Beeri but decided to turn back upon hearing the sirens. He spoke with his wife and left a message for his daughter before the tragic events unfolded.

Recovery of Three Other Hostages

The recovery of the bodies of Itzhak Gelerenter, Amit Buskila, and Shani Louk on Friday marked a somber moment amid the ongoing conflict between Israeli forces and Hamas. The three hostages were identified to have been at the Supernova music festival near Re’im on October 7 before fleeing to the Mefalsim area. Hagari revealed that they were killed by Hamas terrorists in that location and their bodies were later taken to Gaza. While Gelerenter and Buskila were previously believed to be alive, Louk’s death was confirmed in late October after her remains were identified.

Continued Efforts and Closure

The IDF’s relentless efforts to retrieve the bodies of the abducted Israelis have provided closure to the families of the victims. The special operations conducted by the military and Shin Bet have brought some resolution to the tragic events that unfolded in October. The recovery of Ron Benjamin’s body signifies the end of a harrowing chapter for his loved ones, as they can now lay him to rest with dignity alongside his fellow hostages..
