The family of Rosario Corieri has expressed their concerns about the initial press release from the city, which stated that no one was “seriously injured” in the accident. However, Maryanne Corieri, Rosario’s wife, revealed that her husband had to be transferred to the trauma unit at the Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo due to a brain bleed.

A Difficult Recovery

Maryanne Corieri shared that her husband has been battling various health issues, including cancer, and is currently in a weakened state. The accident has only added to their challenges, as Rosario was just starting to regain his strength before the crash.

The Investigation

The crash is still under investigation by the Falls Police Crash Management Unit. According to the police press release, the marked police cruiser was responding to an emergency call when it passed through a red light and collided with a civilian vehicle.

Injuries and Treatment

Both the officer driving the patrol car, Kyle Bond, and Rosario Corieri were taken to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center for evaluation. While the initial report stated that their injuries were non-life-threatening, it was later discovered that Rosario had sustained a brain bleed and broken ribs.

A Father’s Struggle

Roy Corieri, Rosario’s son, clarified that his father was not released from the hospital as initially reported but was instead transferred to ECMC for further treatment. As of Friday, Rosario remains at ECMC, where doctors are closely monitoring his condition and working to stabilize him.

The Collision Sequence

Roy explained that his father was driving north on 80th Street and had just entered the intersection when the police cruiser struck his vehicle. Thankfully, the officer managed to avoid a direct impact on Rosario’s driver’s side door, potentially preventing more severe injuries.

Inconsistencies and Investigations

While Roy mentioned that his father did not hear a siren before the collision, witnesses claimed to have heard the patrol car’s siren and seen its flashing lights. The police are now looking into whether the siren was activated at the time of the accident.

Update on Rosario’s Condition

Despite the initial assessment that none of the crash victims were seriously injured, further testing revealed the extent of Rosario’s injuries. Doctors at ECMC are currently working to stabilize his condition and provide the necessary treatment for his recovery..
