The Shocking Revelation of a Serial Killer
In a chilling turn of events, a man who died in a US prison while serving time for rape has been identified as a serial killer by the Royal Canadian Mounted police (RCMP). Gary Allen Srery, who passed away in 2011 in an Idaho prison, was found to have strangled four women in Alberta during the 1970s.

A Decades-Long Mystery Unveiled
The victims, Eva Dvorak, Patricia “Patsy” McQueen, Melissa Rehorek, and Barbara MacLean, all lived in Calgary and mysteriously disappeared between 1976 and 1977. Their deaths had remained unsolved for almost 50 years, with the cases being investigated as either suspicious or homicides.
Breakthrough in DNA Technology
After years of exhaustive investigation, the Alberta RCMP finally identified Srery as the suspect using advanced DNA technology. By creating a family tree from data found on public DNA sites and samples from the victims’ bodies, authorities were able to link Srery to the gruesome murders.
The Tragic Fates of the Victims
Dvorak and McQueen, both 14 years old, vanished while walking together in downtown Calgary in 1976. Their bodies were discovered the next day on Highway 1 west of the city. Rehorek, a 20-year-old housekeeper, was found dead in a ditch 22 kilometres west of Calgary in September 1976, just a day after she went missing. MacLean, a 19-year-old working at a local food bank, was last seen in February 1977 and found dead outside Calgary city limits six hours later.
A Criminal Past Unveiled
Srery, an American citizen, was in Canada illegally at the time of the murders, having fled the US after being charged with rape in California. Inspector Breanne Brown revealed that Srery had a lengthy criminal record in the US for sex offences, including rape and kidnapping.

A Life of Deception
Upon arriving in Calgary in 1975, Srery lived under various aliases and used fake IDs to apply for social assistance. He later moved to British Columbia’s lower mainland, where he remained undetected by law enforcement until he was convicted of sexual assault in New Westminster in 1998.
Justice Served
Srery served five years in prison for the sexual assault in British Columbia before being deported back to the US. He was subsequently arrested in Idaho and sentenced to life in prison for raping a woman in Coeur D’Alene near the Idaho-Washington border.
A Call for Public Assistance
The RCMP has asked the public for help in piecing together Srery’s life in Canada, expressing concern over how he evaded authorities for over 20 years. Despite the closure brought by identifying the offender, Superintendent Hall reiterated that it would not bring back the victims but hoped their families would finally have some answers after all these years..
