A tragic incident occurred at the Old Courtallam Falls in Tenkasi district of Tamil Nadu, resulting in the death of a 17-year-old boy named Ashwin. The young boy, a Class XI student from NGO Colony in Palayamkottai, lost his life after being swept away by a flash flood on Friday afternoon.

Flash Flood Tragedy
The incident took place around 2.30 pm when Ashwin and several others were enjoying a day out at the picturesque Old Courtallam Falls. However, their leisurely outing took a turn for the worse as sudden rain in the Western Ghats triggered flash floods in the area. Panic ensued among the tourists as they screamed for help, prompting police personnel and nearby shopkeepers to rush to their aid.
Swift Rescue Operation
District collector A K Kamal Kishore and superintendent of police T P Suresh Kumar, accompanied by Fire and Rescue Services personnel, quickly launched a rescue operation to save Ashwin. Despite their best efforts, the young boy was swept away by the raging waters and his body was later found trapped between rocks in a stream branching from the falls, approximately a kilometre from the bathing area.

Expressing his condolences, the district collector stated that Ashwin’s body was recovered after an extensive search and rescue effort. He also highlighted that the public had been previously alerted through the media about the heavy rain forecast in Tenkasi district and the need to exercise caution.
