Man Faces Multiple Charges After Shooting Incident in Rapides Parish

A Ville Platte man, Kearrious Marquez McCoy, is facing a slew of charges after being involved in a shooting incident in Rapides Parish that led to a multi-parish chase. The 24-year-old McCoy has been charged with seven counts of attempted second-degree murder, three counts of illegal discharge of a firearm, two counts of attempted carjacking, two counts of aggravated criminal damage to property, and several other charges including carjacking, aggravated cruelty to animals, resisting an officer, and more.

The incident unfolded on May 11 when Rapides Parish Deputies responded to a disturbance in the 3000 block of La. 112 in Lecompte. It was reported that McCoy had arrived at a local restaurant in a stolen vehicle from Evangeline Parish. Eyewitnesses stated that McCoy then approached another vehicle in a convenience store parking lot, brandishing a gun and demanding the driver to exit the vehicle. A physical altercation ensued, resulting in one victim being shot in the arm.

McCoy went on to confront and shoot at three other victims, even fatally shooting a dog that was in one of the vehicles. One of the victims managed to return fire, prompting McCoy to steal the victim’s vehicle and flee the scene towards Forest Hill. A pursuit was initiated by law enforcement, with McCoy attempting to ram their vehicles during the chase.

The chase led into Allen Parish, where McCoy’s vehicle was eventually disabled by Kinder police. McCoy fled on foot but was later located near railroad tracks and taken into custody after a brief struggle. A firearm was recovered from McCoy’s possession during the arrest. He was booked into the Allen Parish Detention Center and remains in custody with detainers from multiple parishes.
