Thomas, known to friends and family as Tom, was born on January 4, 1937, in West Bend, WI to parents John and Mary Dobberstein. He grew up in West Bend and attended West Bend High School, where he was known for his love of sports, particularly football and baseball. After graduating, Tom enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country with honor and dedication.

During his time in the Army, Tom was stationed in various locations around the world, including Germany and Korea. He received several commendations for his service, demonstrating his commitment to his country and his fellow soldiers. After serving his time in the military, Tom returned to West Bend, where he worked as a mechanic at a local auto shop for many years.

In his free time, Tom enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren, who brought him great joy and laughter. He was known for his quick wit, sense of humor, and love of storytelling. Tom had a passion for classic cars and could often be found at car shows, admiring the vintage vehicles and sharing stories with fellow enthusiasts.

Tom was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, always putting his family first and providing unwavering love and support. He was a pillar of strength and wisdom, offering guidance and encouragement to those around him. Tom’s generous spirit and kind heart touched the lives of all who knew him, leaving a lasting impact on the community.

In addition to his love of cars and sports, Tom was also an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping, finding peace and tranquility in nature. He passed on his love of the outdoors to his children and grandchildren, creating cherished memories that will be treasured for generations to come.

Tom is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Sarah, his children Michael (Jennifer) Dobberstein and Susan (David) Johnson, his grandchildren Emily, Jacob, Hannah, and Ethan, and his siblings Robert Dobberstein and Carol Miller. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will miss him dearly.

A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at the West Bend Community Center on May 20, 2024, at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society in Tom’s memory.

Tom will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and unwavering devotion to his family. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace.
