DEDHAM, Mass. — The ongoing Karen Read murder trial took a dramatic turn as Brian Albert, the man who lived at the Canton home where Boston police Officer John O’Keefe was found dead in January 2022, took the stand on Friday and is set to be cross-examined by the defense on Monday morning.

Brian Albert, along with his wife Nicole, resided at 34 Fairview Road when O’Keefe’s body was discovered on their front lawn during a snowstorm. The couple has since sold the property in 2023. Albert recounted how he first learned of O’Keefe’s tragic death when his sister, Jen McCabe, entered his bedroom in a state of shock and distress early that morning.
Despite the proximity of the incident, Albert claimed that O’Keefe never entered their home and that he refrained from going outside to check on him out of respect for the first responders. He maintained that he was unaware of the events leading up to O’Keefe’s death, including the alleged altercation between Read and O’Keefe.
The defense has put forth the theory that O’Keefe was attacked by the family dog inside the Alberts’ home, leading to his injuries. They questioned Nicole Albert about any disturbances she may have heard that night, to which she responded that she had not heard anything unusual.
The Alberts have adamantly denied any involvement in O’Keefe’s death, stating that the decision to sell their home and re-home their dog was unrelated to the tragic incident.
