Speaking to the media, Jaishankar stated that while any arrest of an Indian national would typically prompt notification to the government or embassy, no concrete evidence has been presented to warrant investigation by Indian agencies.

The Arrests in Canada
The Canadian police recently made headlines by arresting a fourth suspect in connection to the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The suspect, identified as Amandeep Singh, was apprehended for first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. This arrest follows the earlier detention of three Indian nationals – Karan Brar, Kamalpreet Singh, and Karanpreet Singh – in relation to the same case.
The Victim: Hardeep Singh Nijjar
Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a designated terrorist by India’s National Investigation Agency in 2020, was tragically shot and killed outside a Gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia, in June last year. The attack, described as highly coordinated, involved six men and two vehicles. Despite speculation in the Canadian media, no evidence linking the incident to India has been provided by the Canadian police.
Diplomatic Tensions
Following Nijjar’s killing, diplomatic tensions arose between Canada and India, with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleging Indian involvement in the incident.
