Details of the crash
According to the Ledyard police Department, officers arrived at the scene just after 12:20 a.m. to find the driver, identified as 34-year-old Megan Gleason of Moodus, sitting on top of her car. The vehicle was on its side in a wooded area off the eastbound side of the road. Firefighters and medics assisted Gleason in getting off the vehicle, although she declined medical treatment.
Allegations of intoxication
Police officers reportedly detected the smell of alcohol on Gleason’s breath as they interacted with her. She allegedly confessed to having consumed “too much” alcohol before the crash. Gleason’s admission, coupled with a failed field sobriety test, led to her arrest on charges of driving under the influence and failure to drive right.
Legal consequences
After being held for four hours, Gleason was released on a $2,500 non-surety bond. She is scheduled to make an appearance in New London Superior Court on June 6 to address the charges against her. The vehicle, which sustained significant damage in the crash, had to be removed by a wrecker.
Community impact
The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence and the potential consequences that can arise from such actions. It highlights the importance of making responsible decisions when operating a vehicle, not only for one’s own safety but also for the safety of others on the road.
