Details of the Incident

The incident began on April 27, around 12:14 a.m., when a call was made to Austin 911 reporting a person walking around the apartment complex with a gun. Witnesses described the individual as a white man in black clothing carrying a black rifle. Multiple calls indicated that the man was holding four to five Hispanic males at gunpoint, and gunshots were heard in the area.

Upon arriving at the scene at 12:22 a.m., officers immediately began searching for the suspect and any potential victims. With the help of a witness, they were able to pinpoint the suspect’s location within the complex.

Confrontation and Tragic Outcome

As officers approached a group of individuals in front of an apartment building, the armed suspect, later identified as Thomas Dray Price, emerged from a breezeway holding a firearm. Despite repeated commands to drop the weapon, Price failed to comply and instead pointed the gun at the officers. In response, Officers Adam Reinhart and Kai Finch discharged their firearms, fatally striking Price.
