A devastating incident shook a quiet Minnesota town when a mobile home explosion claimed the lives of a local couple and their beloved dog. The heartbreaking event unfolded in the early hours of Tuesday, May 7, leaving the community in shock and mourning.

Explosion and Aftermath
Reports from the Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office revealed that the explosion occurred at approximately 3:54 a.m. local time at the address of 8242 52nd ST. First responders arrived at the scene to find a large debris field engulfed in flames. With the help of multiple fire departments, the fire was eventually extinguished, but not before the bodies of two victims were discovered amidst the wreckage.
Victims Identified
The victims were identified as Royce Edward Kreger Jr., 60, and Katherine Ann Kreger, 61, a husband and wife who tragically lost their lives in the explosion. Additionally, the family dog was also found deceased in the debris, adding to the heart-wrenching nature of the incident.
Community Mourning
The owner of the property where the couple lived for five years described Royce as a “very, very dear friend” who took exceptional care of the place. Stuart Bryan, the property owner, reflected on Royce’s character and the impact of the loss on the community. Chief Sheriff’s Deputy Aaron Evenson expressed the extent of the devastation, calling it the largest explosion he had ever witnessed.

As authorities work to piece together the events leading up to the explosion, the cause remains under investigation. The cleanup and recovery process is expected to be lengthy and challenging due to the extensive damage caused by the blast.
