The Investigation Begins

The incident came to light on Jan. 26 when the Economic Crime Unit launched an investigation into embezzlement following a complaint filed by Home Depot. The complaint alleged that a former employee had been allowing customers to leave the store without paying for their items. Further investigation revealed that Stevie Brown was one of the beneficiaries of this scheme, receiving merchandise valued at over $1000 for a mere $40.

Admission of Guilt

During his interview on Jan. 29, Brown confessed to the authorities that he had indeed paid a significantly lower amount for the merchandise he had walked out with. This admission of guilt ultimately led to Brown surrendering himself to the authorities on Wednesday.

The Arrest

Upon surrendering, Brown was promptly arrested and charged with grand larceny (aiding and abetting), buying, receiving or possessing stolen property, and obtaining property by false pretenses. In light of the charges, Brown’s bail was set at $20,000. Unfortunately, he was unable to post bail and was subsequently processed and remanded to the Bureau of Corrections.

Legal Proceedings

Brown’s next step in the legal process involves an advice of rights hearing scheduled for Thursday at the Superior Court. This hearing will determine the course of action moving forward in this case.
