The devastating forest fires in Uttarakhand have tragically claimed the lives of five individuals in the span of just three days. Among the victims is a 28-year-old woman named Pooja, a Nepalese labourer who sustained severe burn injuries while bravely trying to extinguish a fire near a pine resin factory in Almora district. Tragically, her husband and two others had already lost their lives while battling the same fire just a week prior.

**Further Losses in the Region**

Adding to the mounting death toll, a 65-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries at AIIMS Rishikesh after attempting to douse a forest fire that had encroached upon her farm in a village in Pauri tehsil. Additionally, three labourers lost their lives while trying to contain a fire that had spread dangerously close to their pine resin factory in Almora.

The fires have wreaked havoc in the region, with pilgrims at Dunagiri temple in Almora district being forced to evacuate as the flames engulfed the passage leading to the shrine. Forest officials have attributed the rapid spread of the fires to strong winds fanning the flames.

**Airport Operations Disrupted**

In a bid to ensure safety amid the raging fires, flight arrivals at the Naini-Saini airport in Pithoragarh have been halted due to low visibility, as reported by The Times of India.

**Ray of Hope: Rain Forecasted**

There is a glimmer of hope on the horizon, as Bikram Singh, the director of the Meteorological Center in Dehradun, has hinted at the possibility of rain in the state from May 7-8, with intensification expected from May 11 onwards. This anticipated rainfall is expected to aid in extinguishing the rampant forest fires plaguing Uttarakhand.

**Arrests Made in Connection with Fires**

In a shocking development, three individuals from Bihar have been arrested by Chamoli district police for allegedly starting a fire in the Gairsain area with the intention of garnering more views on social media. The culprits were apprehended following the circulation of a video showcasing the fire on various social media platforms.
