In a distressing turn of events, a woman has been arrested in Grafton, West Virginia, after deputies discovered an alarming mix of drugs and alcohol in close proximity to three children in a vehicle. The incident took place on May 5, when deputies from the Taylor County Sheriff’s Department were on a routine patrol in the area of West Main Street in Grafton.

**Strong Odor of Marijuana Leads to Disturbing Discovery**

During their patrol, deputies detected a strong smell of marijuana emanating from a vehicle parked on Yates Avenue. Upon further investigation, they found several concerning items within reach of the children in the vehicle. The occupants of the vehicle, including Malissa Sampson, 32, from Shinnston, informed deputies that marijuana had been smoked inside the vehicle at Tygart’s Lake State Park.

A thorough search of the vehicle uncovered 15.26 grams of marijuana, bags of “marijuana shake,” rolling papers, and a “marijuana grinder.” Additionally, deputies found an empty “Mike’s Hard peach beverage” bottle, a foam cup with a Mike’s Hard beverage, and a tea bottle containing a Mike’s Hard beverage in the vehicle.

**Disturbing Contents of a Purse**

Further inspection of a purse in the back seat revealed even more alarming items. Inside the purse, deputies discovered 5.08 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, 36.87 grams of THC gummies, 4.20 grams of marijuana, three bags containing a total of 4.79 grams of crack rock cocaine, a THC chocolate bar weighing 9.38 grams, and a set of scales. It was noted that all these substances and open alcohol containers were within easy reach of the juveniles in the vehicle.

**Charges and Consequences**

As a result of this shocking discovery, Malissa Sampson has been charged with three counts of child neglect. She is currently being held in Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $33,300 bond.
