Man Charged with Murder After Fleeing Country
A man who had been on the run since 2013 has finally been apprehended and charged with murder in Minneapolis. Suleiman Abdulkadir Ali, aged 30, is facing second-degree murder charges after allegedly killing 26-year-old Abdirahman Haji-Ahmed outside a gas station on the night before Halloween.

Details of the Incident
The tragic incident took place outside Bobby and Steve’s Auto World at the intersection of Washington Avenue South and 12th Avenue South. When police arrived at the scene just before midnight, they found Haji-Ahmed shot multiple times in the head while sitting in the driver’s seat of a moving vehicle. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Security Guard’s Eyewitness Account
A security guard who was on duty at the gas station reported seeing a man wearing a multi-colored mailman-style jacket jumping over a fence and fleeing the scene after the shooting. This crucial piece of information helped investigators piece together what had happened that fateful night.
Key Evidence Uncovered
Investigators recovered five .45-caliber rounds from inside the vehicle, all fired from the rear seat. They also found a torn piece of fabric near the fence, believed to have come from the shooter’s jacket. Additionally, surveillance footage captured the suspect, Suleiman Abdulkadir Ali, exiting a vehicle just minutes before the fatal shooting.
Break in the Case
The case took a turn in 2022 when a phone number recovered from the victim’s phone led authorities to a woman who had been at the gas station with her boyfriend and another unidentified man. She hinted that the unknown man might have been involved in a drug deal with Haji-Ahmed but refused to provide further details.

International Fugitive
Following the shooting, Ali managed to evade capture and fled the country, with investigators suspecting he had gone to Somalia. The case went cold until a tip-off in 2022 revealed that Ali had contacted an informant on the day of the murder, confessing to the crime and seeking money to leave the country.
Return to the United States
In a surprising development in March 2024, homicide detectives learned that Ali had returned to the United States and was living in Fargo. They promptly obtained a warrant for his DNA and compared it to evidence found at the murder scene, leading to his arrest in Grand Forks.
