Canada Soccer Votes to Increase Membership Fees
In a bid to boost its financial standing, Canada Soccer has made the decision to raise its annual membership fee for players. Starting in 2025, soccer players will see a $4 increase in their membership fee, bringing it up to $13 from the previous $9. This marks the first time the membership fee has been raised since 2017.

New President-Elect and Board Members
At the recent annual general meeting in Montreal, Peter Augruso was elected as the new president of Canada Soccer. Augruso, who serves as the president and chair of Ontario Soccer, ran unopposed after incumbent Charmaine Crooks announced that she would not seek re-election in order to pursue other opportunities. The board also welcomed new directors Gayle Statton from B.C./Yukon, Terri Mattuci from Ontario, Terry Delblond from Quebec, and independent directors Brad Baker and Davide Xausa.
Fee Increase Allocation
The fee increase was split into two motions during the meeting. The first motion called for a $3 raise to go directly to the national governing body, while the second motion called for an additional $1 increase, with half of the funds going towards Canadian national youth programs and the other half to Project 8, the organization behind the development of a women’s domestic pro league.
Financial Impact
The $3 fee increase is expected to generate an additional $2.2 million based on Canada Soccer’s 2023 annual report, which lists a countrywide membership of approximately 739,642 individuals. Canada Soccer President and General Secretary Kevin Blue stated that the fee increase is just one part of a broader effort to increase revenue for the governing body.
Current Revenue Breakdown
According to Canada Soccer’s 2023 annual report, membership fees currently account for around 20% of the organization’s revenue. The rest of the revenue comes from commercial and other fees (46%), FIFA and CONCACAF grants (22%), government grants (11%), and the 2026 FIFA World Cup (1%).
