The chain of events leading to the fatal crash began when a deputy from the Bedford County Sheriff’s Department spotted a 2013 Harley Davidson motorcycle travelling at speeds exceeding 100 mph on Route 24. The deputy attempted to pull over the motorcycle, but the rider refused to stop and instead tried to evade law enforcement.
Despite the deputy’s efforts to apprehend the speeding motorcyclist, the driver continued to accelerate, reaching dangerous speeds. Tragically, the pursuit ended in disaster at the intersection of Goodview Road and Route 24, where the motorcycle collided with a 2016 Subaru Legacy making a left turn.
Victims Identified
The driver of the Harley Davidson was later identified as Travis Wayne Perdue, a 46-year-old resident of Thaxton, Virginia. Travelling as a passenger on the motorcycle was Michael Billy Bishop, a 35-year-old from Blue Ridge, Virginia. Both individuals were wearing safety helmets at the time of the crash.
Following the impact, Perdue and Bishop were ejected from the motorcycle, sustaining severe injuries. They were rushed to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where despite the best efforts of medical staff, they tragically succumbed to their injuries.
