A North Las Vegas man, Efrain Chavarin, finds himself in legal trouble after allegedly engaging in a violent altercation with his neighbor. The 51-year-old is now facing charges of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon following a disturbing incident that took place on April 20.

Neighbours Report Bizarre Behaviour
According to reports, the altercation took place in the 1100 block of Stone River Drive, near Civic Center Drive and Carey Avenue. police were called to the scene after neighbours reported a fight between Chavarin and his neighbour. Witnesses shared that Chavarin had a history of exhibiting bizarre and aggressive behaviour, with incidents occurring almost daily.
Violent Confrontation
On the night of the incident, the victim was working on his truck in his driveway when Chavarin approached him and demanded that he turn off the vehicle. The situation quickly escalated as Chavarin punched the victim in the face, causing him to fall to the ground. Chavarin then proceeded to strangle the victim, making it difficult for him to breathe. The victim recounted a terrifying ten-minute ordeal during which Chavarin threatened to kill him.
Threats with Deadly Weapons
After the victim managed to break free and retreat into his home, Chavarin retrieved a pocket knife and later a pickaxe. He approached the victim’s front gate, waving the knife and threatening to decapitate him. Chavarin also demanded money and the keys to the victim’s truck while brandishing the weapons menacingly. The situation escalated further as Chavarin destroyed a bucket with the pickaxe and threw the remnants into the victim’s yard.
Police Intervention
Chavarin continued his erratic behaviour, pacing around his yard and throwing objects into the victim’s property until law enforcement arrived at the scene. Despite police attempts to peacefully resolve the situation, Chavarin remained defiant, daring them to confront him. He further antagonized the situation by playing loud music, using a vacuum, and even throwing a screwdriver at a garage door.

Arrest and Custody
After a tense standoff, Chavarin was eventually taken into custody and transported to the North Las Vegas Community Correctional Center.
