Tragic Accident Claims Lives of Teenager and Woman in Tampines

A devastating road accident in Tampines, Singapore, has left the community in mourning after claiming the lives of a 17-year-old girl and a 57-year-old woman. The incident, which occurred early Monday morning, involved six vehicles and resulted in multiple injuries, including the tragic loss of two individuals.

Victims Identified

The young girl, identified as Afifah Munirah Muhammad Azril, was a student at Temasek Junior College. She was on her way to Temasek Technical University to participate in a cross-country competition organized by her school when the accident occurred. Afifah was sitting in the backseat of her father’s car when a black Saab, driven by a 42-year-old man, collided with their vehicle.

Her father, police Coast Guard Inspector Muhammad Azril Mahmood, sustained injuries in the crash and underwent surgery on the same day. The family’s heartbreaking ordeal was shared on social media by Firdaus Kassim, Afifah’s uncle and a football coach, who provided updates on the father’s condition.

The second victim, 57-year-old Norzihan Juwahib, was an employee at First Choice Pest Specialist, a pest control company. Her sudden and tragic passing has left her colleagues and loved ones in shock and grief.

Driver Arrested for Dangerous Driving

The 42-year-old driver allegedly responsible for the fatal accident has been arrested for dangerous driving causing death. According to police reports, the man was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday and immediately taken into custody. The video footage captured by witnesses showed the black Saab speeding and running a red light at the intersection of Tampines Avenue 1 and Tampines Avenue 4.

In response to the incident, the driver’s license has been suspended with immediate effect, and an investigation is currently underway to determine the circumstances leading to the tragic collision.
