Tragic Accident Involving School Van Leaves Multiple Injured

Manchester Township, NJ – A devastating two-car motor vehicle crash occurred on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at the intersection of County Route 571 and County Route 547 in Manchester Township. The collision involved a Transit Van carrying several students to school, resulting in multiple injuries and a harrowing scene for first responders.

Upon arrival at the crash site, officers from the Manchester Township police Department found a white 2020 Acura TLX with significant passenger side damage and a black 2023 Ford Transit Passenger Van with extensive front-end damage. The investigation revealed that the Ford was traveling southbound on County Road 547 when the Acura attempted to make a left turn onto County Road 571 northbound. Tragically, the Acura turned in front of the Ford, leading to a devastating impact on the passenger side.

The driver of the Acura, identified as 53-year-old Tracey Kahn from Forked River, NJ, suffered facial lacerations and was rushed to Community Medical Center in Toms River for treatment. The Ford’s driver, 20-year-old Dvora Katz from Jackson, NJ, also sustained facial injuries and was transported to Jersey Shore University Hospital in Neptune. The Ford was carrying eleven juvenile students at the time of the crash, with four of them requiring further evaluation at Jersey Shore University Hospital and seven others treated for minor injuries at Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus.

Emergency responders from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services, Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Department, Robert Wood Johnson Paramedics, and Hatzolah of Central Jersey worked tirelessly at the scene to assist the injured and manage the aftermath of the collision. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, with initial findings pointing to failure to yield the right of way at an intersection and improper turning as primary factors.
