The Texas Department of Public Safety has officially named the suspect behind the murder of a 74-year-old man in Odessa as 26-year-old Trevor James Myrick from Hobbs, New Mexico. Myrick’s identity was revealed following a multi-county manhunt that ended in a fatal encounter.

The Manhunt Begins
The manhunt for Myrick commenced on April 15 when the Ector County Sheriff’s Office responded to a distressing scene at a residence in West Odessa. Initial investigations indicated that Myrick had fled the site in a stolen black Ford Mustang, triggering a pursuit that spanned multiple counties and involved various law enforcement agencies.
A Cross-County Pursuit
After locating the stolen vehicle later that day, law enforcement officers engaged in a pursuit that saw Myrick crashing the Mustang and fleeing on foot. The chase led authorities to Irion County, ending on RM 2469, a road approximately 5 miles southwest of Mertzon.
The Fatal Encounter
On the following day, TxDPS troopers spotted Myrick near the intersection of Duncan Avenue and North Broadway Street in Mertzon. An officer-involved shooting ensued, resulting in Myrick’s demise. The Texas Rangers have since taken over the investigation into the shooting, although no further details have been disclosed at this time.
