Details of the Investigation

Officials announced on Tuesday that the identity of Que Thi Tran was established through DNA evidence collected in March, bringing closure to a heartbreaking case. Law enforcement agencies worked together to conduct a thorough search near the location where Tran’s body was recovered from the City of Alameda.

Last month, Phuc Vo, a 41-year-old resident of San Pablo, was charged with the murders of Tran and his wife, 40-year-old Tho Ngoc Ly. While Tran’s body was found, Ly’s remains are yet to be recovered. The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office has filed two counts of murder against Vo, who initially reported his wife and mother-in-law missing in September.

Police Investigation and Suspect’s Deception

The chain of events began when Vo reported the disappearance of his wife and mother-in-law from the 1900 block of Sutter Avenue on September 12. He claimed they had left for Southern California in their 2017 Honda Fit following a family argument. However, inconsistencies in Vo’s statements raised suspicions among investigators.

San Pablo police located the Honda in Oakland at an industrial park, leading to further deception by Vo. Surveillance footage captured Vo moving the vehicle shortly after claiming ignorance about its whereabouts, exposing his lies. This revelation prompted authorities to intensify their efforts in the investigation.

Ongoing Investigation and Collaborative Efforts

Despite the progress made in identifying Que Thi Tran and charging Phuc Vo, the case remains an active and open investigation. The City of Alameda, Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, East Bay Regional Parks Police Department, CalOES, and the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office have all played pivotal roles in the search efforts.

As the investigation continues, authorities are committed to uncovering the truth behind the tragic deaths of Tran and Ly. The collaborative efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies demonstrate a shared determination to seek justice for the victims and their loved ones..
