Newly released court documents have shed light on the investigation into the disappearance of two Kansas women, Veronica Butler and Jilian Kelley, who went missing in late March while traveling to Texas County in the Oklahoma Panhandle. The search for the two women commenced on March 30 after their vehicle was found abandoned near Highway 95 and Road L south of Elkhart, Kansas.

The disappearance of Butler and Kelley has captured national attention and resulted in the arrests of four individuals – Tad Cullum, Tifany Adams, Cole Twombly, and Cora Twombly. The investigation eventually led to the discovery of two bodies in rural Texas County, which were later identified as Butler and Kelley.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Adams was allegedly searching for information related to taser pain levels, gun shops, prepaid cellphones, and methods to get someone out of their house. The court documents also suggest that the suspects are affiliated with an anti-government group with a religious connection.
The investigation began when the Texas County Sheriff’s Office sought assistance from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation following the suspicious disappearance of Butler and Kelley. It was revealed that Butler was embroiled in a contentious custody battle for her children with Tifany Adams, the paternal grandmother. Due to the unavailability of the court-appointed supervisor for visitation on March 30, Butler enlisted Kelley’s help.
Butler and Kelley failed to arrive at their intended meeting point, prompting a search that led to the discovery of their abandoned vehicle. Law enforcement officials noted evidence of foul play at the scene, including blood and a pistol magazine. Further investigation revealed severe injuries and raised suspicions of criminal activity.

During the course of the investigation, Adams claimed that she was at home when Butler and Kelley went missing and had picked up her grandchildren before noon. However, phone records indicated a call between Adams and Butler at the time Butler was purportedly picking up Kelley in Hugoton.
The court documents also detailed Adams’ alleged purchases of stun guns and pre-paid cellphones, as well as web searches related to taser pain levels and methods to remove someone from a house. The pre-paid cellphones were tracked to locations near the Twomblys’ residence and the area where Butler’s and Kelley’s car was found.
An interview with a relative of Cora and Cole Twombly revealed information suggesting their involvement in the deaths of Butler and Kelley, purportedly as part of an anti-government group called “God’s Misfits.” The group allegedly held regular meetings at the Twomblys’ residence and was linked to the murders through burner phones provided by Adams.
