MONTCLAIR WOMAN CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED ASSAULT IN SHOOTING INCIDENT
A Montclair woman, identified as Maryann Swain, has been charged with aggravated assault and other charges following a shooting that injured a Montclair police officer on Monday afternoon. The incident took place at a residence on the 100 block of Forest Street in Montclair.

DETAILS OF THE INCIDENT
According to an investigation by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, Montclair Police officers responded to reports of an armed person at the residence around 1:09 p.m. As the officers approached the property, they were met with gunfire. Officer Michael J. Medrano, aged 33, was struck in the shoulder area during the exchange. Another officer returned fire, striking the suspect.
Both the injured officer and the suspect were taken to University Hospital in Newark for treatment of their injuries. Fortunately, the officer’s injuries were not life-threatening, and he has since been released from the hospital.
CHARGES AGAINST MARYANN SWAIN
Maryann Swain, aged 39 and a resident of Montclair, has been charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. Swain is currently hospitalized, and once released, she will be held in the Essex County Correctional Facility pending an appearance in Essex County Central Judicial Processing (CJP) Court.
