According to the police report, the trio was returning home after visiting friends when the accident took place. Riding triples on the scooter, Saddam Hussein failed to notice the warning barricades set up around a water pipeline construction site. He crossed the first barricade, lost control of the vehicle, and crashed into the second barricade, leading to the tragic fall into the deep pit.

Passers-by quickly alerted the authorities, who rushed the injured to a nearby hospital. Despite efforts to save him, Saddam Hussein succumbed to his head injuries and was pronounced dead.
