Woman Arrested After Leading police on 25-Minute Chase Through Greeley

A woman, identified as 27-year-old Karina Caraballo, found herself in hot water after allegedly leading police on a wild chase through the streets of Greeley earlier this month. The incident, which occurred on April 4, resulted in Caraballo being arrested on suspicion of vehicular eluding and driving under the influence.

Past Offences and Warrants

This wasn’t Caraballo’s first run-in with the law, as she had previously been convicted of driving under the influence three times – once in 2015 and twice in 2016. Her license had been revoked due to being a habitual offender, and she also had five outstanding warrants at the time of her arrest.

The Chase Begins

The dramatic events unfolded just before 8:30 a.m. when Greeley police responded to a report of people sleeping in a vehicle in a parking lot on 12th Street. Upon arrival, officers encountered Caraballo and a man inside a silver van. Despite repeated orders to exit the vehicle, the pair seemed intent on evading the authorities.

Desperate Measures

In a bid to prevent Caraballo from fleeing in the van, an officer deflated the vehicle’s tires. However, Caraballo managed to locate the keys and started the van, initiating a dangerous sequence of events.

A Reckless Escape

Ignoring the presence of law enforcement, Caraballo accelerated away in the van, narrowly avoiding collision with officers and other vehicles in the parking lot. As the pursuit ensued, the male passenger made a run for it and was later apprehended on a separate warrant.

A Dangerous Pursuit

Caraballo’s wild escapade continued for approximately 25 minutes as she raced through crowded streets, disregarding traffic signals and endangering pedestrians and motorists alike. Despite the van’s compromised state due to deflated tires, she persisted in her reckless flight.

Drone Deployment and Apprehension

To track Caraballo’s movements more effectively, officers deployed a drone during the pursuit. Eventually, she came to a stop in the 1700 block of Sixth Street, where she was taken into custody without further incident.

Erratic Behaviour

Upon being apprehended, Caraballo exhibited signs of impairment, including bloodshot and watery eyes, profuse sweating, and an inability to respond coherently. Although initially resistant to a blood test, she later consented to one after being transported to the hospital.

Legal Proceedings

Caraballo was subsequently booked into the Weld County Jail, where she awaits a disposition hearing scheduled for May 3 at the Weld District Court. The consequences of her actions during the fateful chase could have far-reaching implications for her future..
