In a heartbreaking turn of events, five young individuals lost their lives in a tragic drowning incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Kasganj. The victims, identified as Shahid, Abhishek, Salman, Asif, and Jahid, were between the ages of 16 and 22 and hailed from Etah district.

Details of the Incident
The unfortunate incident occurred when a group of nine youths ventured into the Hazara canal in the Nadrai area of the district on a hot Friday afternoon to cool off with a refreshing bath. However, things took a turn for the worse as they found themselves caught in the strong currents of the canal, leading to a distressing situation where five of them began to drown.
Efforts Made to Save Lives
Amidst the chaos and panic, four of the youths managed to struggle their way out of the water, while the others were not as fortunate. The cries for help from the drowning victims alerted nearby locals, who wasted no time in rushing to the scene and alerting the authorities.
Local police, in collaboration with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams, immediately sprang into action to initiate a rescue operation. The teams were able to recover two bodies on Friday, and the search efforts continued the following day.
Continuation of Rescue Operations
On Saturday, the search and rescue operations resumed, with a renewed determination to recover the remaining victims. After hours of painstaking efforts, three more bodies were retrieved from the canal and subsequently sent for post-mortem examinations.
