The Investigation and Arrest

The police initiated a special investigation after several incidents of vehicle theft were reported in the area. A dedicated team was formed to study the pattern of these thefts, analyze CCTV footage, and gather crucial evidence. The team discovered that the accused operated mostly at midnight, targeting SUVs. They used electronic devices to bypass the security systems of the vehicles, making it easy for them to steal and flee.

The Mastermind Behind the Gang

The investigation led the police to Harpreet Singh, also known as Smarty, who was identified as the head of the gang. On March 18, the team received a tip-off about Harpreet Singh’s whereabouts and managed to intercept a stolen vehicle he was driving. The vehicle had a fake registration plate, and upon further inspection, it was confirmed to be stolen.

The Modus Operandi of the Gang

Harpreet Singh, a B-Tech graduate with in-depth knowledge about vehicles, used a unique method to steal cars. He exploited the onboard diagnostic port in modern cars to download the original digital key onto a blank key, enabling him to steal the vehicles using Chinese scanners. This sophisticated technique allowed the gang to steal luxury cars like Creta Hyundai and Seltos Kia with ease.

The Impact of the Gang’s Activities

During interrogation, the accused revealed that they had stolen a large number of luxury cars, mostly selling them to receivers in Meerut and Punjab. The gang had successfully stolen around 50-60 cars in the last four months alone. Several raids were conducted, leading to the arrest of more individuals involved in the racket and the recovery of additional stolen vehicles.
