In a courageous act of self-defense, 85-year-old Christine Jenneiahn from Bingham County, Idaho, fought off an armed man during a terrifying home invasion last month. The incident, which took place in her own home, has garnered praise for Jenneiahn’s bravery and quick thinking.

Heroic Actions
According to Idaho authorities, Jenneiahn used a handgun that she had hidden underneath her pillow to shoot and kill the intruder, who had bound her to a chair and threatened her life. The intruder, identified as 39-year-old Derek Condon, met his demise in Jenneiahn’s kitchen after she shot him twice with her .357 magnum.
Life-Threatening Situation
Jenneiahn recounted to detectives that she felt her life was in danger and believed that the intruder was going to kill her if she did not use lethal force. In a bid to protect herself and her disabled son, she made the split-second decision to defend herself against the armed assailant.
Terrifying Encounter
The home invasion occurred on March 13, when Jenneiahn was startled awake at around 2 a.m. by a figure standing over her bed. The intruder was aiming a gun and a flashlight at her, wearing a black ski mask and military jacket. Investigators believe that Condon broke into the house by smashing through a window and proceeded to strike Jenneiahn in the head with a pistol while she was in bed.
Brave Stand
Jenneiahn was then led into her living room by the intruder, who handcuffed her to a wooden chair and demanded to know where her valuables were kept, all while holding a pistol to her head. Despite being shackled to the chair, Jenneiahn managed to retrieve her gun from under her pillow when the attacker left the room briefly.

Act of Survival
When Condon discovered that Jenneiahn’s disabled son was also in the house, he became enraged and threatened to kill her. In a moment of sheer bravery, Jenneiahn reached for her gun and fired at the intruder. Condon retaliated, and Jenneiahn sustained gunshot wounds to her belly, leg, arm, and chest.
Remarkable Resilience
Despite being wounded and chained to the chair, Jenneiahn remained composed and alert for 10 hours until her son came upstairs and they were able to call 911 for help. Idaho authorities have commended Jenneiahn for her actions, citing the state’s stand-your-ground law, which allows individuals to defend themselves in life-threatening situations.
Legal Ramifications
Prosecuting Attorney Ryan Jolley stated that if Condon had survived, he would have faced charges of felony attempted murder, kidnapping, burglary, aggravated battery, and grand theft. Jolley described Jenneiahn’s survival as incredible, highlighting her determination and will to live as the driving forces behind her ability to overcome the harrowing ordeal.
