A 21-year-old man tragically lost his life while attempting a daring skiing stunt across a Colorado highway. The young victim, identified as Dallas LeBeau, bravely took on the challenge of trying to leap 40 feet over Highway 40 in Grand County on Tuesday, April 9.

Dallas’s fateful attempt to clear the width of the roadway near Winter Park ended in tragedy when he landed on the highway pavement. A bystander discovered him unconscious and not breathing, prompting emergency services to be called around 3 p.m.
Despite the efforts of the bystander who administered CPR, Dallas could not be revived. First responders arrived at the scene and pronounced the young skier deceased. It was determined that Dallas was attempting a high-risk skiing stunt that unfortunately did not go as planned, causing him to fall short and land on the highway pavement.
The incident caused disruption to traffic on Highway 40 as emergency responders attended to the scene. A childhood friend of Dallas, Devin Shirk, shared that the victim had a deep love for skiing since he was a child and always encouraged others to try the sport as well.
Devin fondly remembered Dallas as someone who always sought to push boundaries and try new things. In honour of his late friend, Devin set up a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral expenses for Dallas’s family, who are grieving the loss of their beloved son.

The goal of the fundraiser was initially set at $20,000, but the community rallied together and surpassed expectations, raising a total of $48,121. Friends and acquaintances of Dallas shared heartfelt memories and messages of support on the fundraising page, highlighting his passion for skiing and his positive impact on those around him.
Colorado Ski Country USA, a trade association representing Colorado ski resorts, expressed their condolences to Dallas’s family and friends. They emphasized the importance of prioritizing safety while engaging in snow sports and activities, reminding skiers and snowboarders to adhere to the Your Responsibility Code to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience on the slopes.
