A shocking incident unfolded in Harpursville this week when a Broome County man was arrested for allegedly attempting to set a gas station employee on fire during a robbery. The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Brody W. Kenyon from Colesville, now faces multiple felony charges in connection with the disturbing incident.

**Attempted Arson at Gas Station**

The harrowing ordeal took place at the Empire Halal Gyro Food Store and Sunoco gas station on Sova Road in Harpursville around 8:13 p.m. on Tuesday. According to the Broome County Sheriff’s Office, Kenyon entered the store and demanded various products, including a Zippo lighter and lighter fluid. After obtaining the items, he proceeded to douse the employee with the lighter fluid in a chilling attempt to set him on fire.

Although the employee escaped serious injury, the spilled lighter fluid ignited on the floor of the store, causing a fire that damaged a nearby ATM before it was extinguished. Kenyon then fled the scene, stealing a light green sweatshirt on his way out.

Deputies swiftly responded to the incident and managed to apprehend Kenyon as he walked in a grassy area near I-88 westbound and Martin Hill Road.
