Subsequently, after a series of persuasive phone conversations, the victim was coerced into withdrawing a substantial sum of cash and handing it over to individuals posing as federal law enforcement officers.

Falling victim to the ruse, the individual complied with the demands of the scammers. However, upon realising the gravity of the situation, the victim promptly reported the incident to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. Swift action was taken by deputies, who initiated a thorough investigation into the matter.

An Attempted Heist Foiled

As the investigation progressed, the suspects brazenly reached out to the victim once more, arranging a meeting to collect a staggering amount of $60,000. Unbeknownst to them, law enforcement officers were already on high alert. When the suspects arrived at the victim’s residence to claim the illicit funds, they were swiftly apprehended by the authorities.

Legal Consequences for the Perpetrators

Following their arrest, Jinghai Fang and Binbin Ge were taken into custody and are currently being detained at the Washington County Detention Center.
