Woman Admits Theft and Breach of Community Protection Notice

Amber Gagen, a 24-year-old resident of Green Street in Ryde, recently appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates to face charges related to theft and breaching a community protection notice. The incident took place in East Cowes on January 24, where Gagen admitted to stealing items from a Co-operative store. The prosecutor, Liz Miller, revealed that Gagen was part of a group of four individuals who entered the store around 9.30pm and made off with items from the chiller and alcohol sections without paying. Despite the CCTV footage capturing the theft, the specific items stolen were not identified, but their value was estimated to be between £40 and £50.

Community Protection Notice Breach

Following the theft incident, Gagen found herself in further trouble on February 19 when police responded to an incident on York Avenue. While it was not confirmed that Gagen was involved in the bottle smashing and threatening behavior, she was found to be in breach of a community protection notice. The prosecutor, Ms Miller, highlighted this breach during the court hearing, shedding light on the sequence of events that led to Gagen’s appearance before the magistrates.

Deep Regret and Legal Consequences

During the hearing, Gagen’s defense lawyer, Jim Osborne, expressed her deep regret for both breaching the community protection notice and engaging in theft. Despite having a previous conviction in October 2022, which was unrelated to the current charges, Gagen found herself facing fines as a result of her actions. The court ordered her to pay a fine of £40, along with additional costs of £85 and a surcharge of £32.

In conclusion, the court proceedings involving Amber Gagen serve as a reminder of the legal consequences that individuals may face when engaging in criminal activities. The incident not only resulted in financial penalties for Gagen but also highlighted the importance of abiding by community protection notices and refraining from theft. As members of society, it is crucial to uphold the law and act responsibly to ensure the safety and well-being of our communities..
