In a surprising turn of events, guests staying at the Buckroe Motel in Hampton were asked to leave on short notice Thursday. Guests Express Frustration

Amanda McCoy, who had been staying at the Buckroe Motel for a month, expressed her frustration at being asked to leave before her paid stay was up. “They tried to tell me today that I was leaving,” she said. “And I said you’ll have me until Wednesday because that’s what I paid for.”

Another guest, Thomas Eldridge, shared his plight, saying, “I’ve paid $700 and haven’t even been here a whole week and they are trying to make me get out now or tomorrow. All I’m asking is if I can at least get refunded for the day I haven’t stayed here. I’m literally going to be homeless.”

Motel Owner’s Response

The owner of the Buckroe Motel, identified only as Rachel, declined to do an interview but spoke to News 3’s Leondra Head over the phone. She denied the claims made by the guests and stated that they were allowed to stay for the days they had paid for but could not renew their stay. Rachel mentioned that the motel would be closed for an indefinite period to complete renovations and address city violations.

City Violations and Guest Complaints

The city of Hampton revealed that the Buckroe Motel needed to address parking lot repairs, exposed wood, and issues with the air conditioning units. Tracy Hill, a resident at the motel, confirmed the presence of these violations, stating, “You can tell by the rooms that there’s violations. The AC unit, you can see the outside of it from the inside.”

Despite the city’s acknowledgment of the violations, they deemed the issues not severe enough to warrant the building’s closure. The owner of the motel, however, made the decision to close voluntarily.
