Tragedy struck in Nainital, Uttarakhand, as a pickup van carrying seven Nepalese residents and a local driver plunged into a 150-metre-deep gorge on Tuesday. The devastating incident resulted in the loss of seven lives, including the driver, and left two others seriously injured.

Rescue Operation Launched by SDRF
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) swiftly responded to the distress call and initiated a rescue operation in collaboration with local police and residents. The ill-fated pickup van was en route from Unchakot in Nainital to Mahendranagar in Nepal when the tragic accident occurred.
Efforts to Save Lives
Upon receiving the alert from the Nainital Disaster Control Room, the SDRF team, led by Sub-Inspector Ram Singh Bora, rushed to the scene equipped with necessary rescue gear. Despite the challenging terrain, the team, aided by locals, managed to retrieve the bodies of the deceased and transport the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Identification of Deceased Victims
The victims of the accident have been identified as Vishram Chaudhary (50), Antram Chaudhary (40), Gopal Basniat (60), Udairam Choudhary (55), Vinod Chaudhary (30), Tilak Chaudhary (45), Dheeraj Chaudhary (45), and the driver Rajendra Kumar, a resident of Betalghat in Nainital.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, expressed his heartfelt condolences for the lives lost in the tragic accident. He took to Twitter to share his sympathies and prayers for the departed souls and their grieving families. The Chief Minister also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured survivors.
