In a devastating turn of events, eight individuals, including seven Nepalese nationals, tragically lost their lives when their vehicle plunged into a 200-foot-deep gorge in Nainital district of Uttarakhand on Monday night. The incident, which occurred around 10:30 PM near Betalghat area, approximately 60 KM from the district headquarters in Nainital, has left the community in mourning.

The Tragic Accident
According to the police, the vehicle was carrying nine Nepalese nationals, all residents of Mahendranagar in Nepal, who worked as labourers in Uttarakhand. The group was on their way home when the accident took place, claiming the lives of Vish Ram (50), Dheeraj (45), Anant Ram Chaudhary (40), Vinod Chaudhary (38), Uday Ram Chaudhary (55), Tilak Ram Chaudhary (45), Gopal (60), and the driver, Rajendra Kumar (38). Two other passengers, Shanti Chaudhary and Chhotu Chaudhary, sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.
Rescue Efforts and Identification
Upon receiving information about the accident, a State Disaster Response Team (SDRF) team, along with locals and police personnel, rushed to the scene. The team worked tirelessly to retrieve the bodies of the deceased and ensure that the injured received prompt medical attention. The Nepalese citizens aboard the vehicle, who were working on a Jal Jeevan Mission project in Unchakot village of Betalghat, will be laid to rest in their native Tanakpur in Champawat district of Nepal after the completion of necessary formalities.
