Three students with severe autism have been revealed to have suffered “unimaginable abuse” at the hands of a Littleton Public Schools (LPS) bus aide over a period of approximately six months, according to Rathod | Mohamedbhai LLC, a local law firm representing the families involved. The children, who are non-verbal and rely on caregivers for their basic needs, were transported daily on a specialized LPS school bus to the Joshua School, a facility offering one-on-one instruction for children with autism.

The alleged perpetrator, identified as Kiarra Monte Laron Jones, 29, of Littleton, had been hired as a paraprofessional by the Littleton Public Schools District and was responsible for the care of the students during their bus journeys. Video footage from the school bus, captured on March 18, reportedly shows Jones repeatedly striking, punching, and stomping on one of the children, leading to her arrest on charges of crimes against an at-risk adult or juvenile (third-degree assault) and crimes against an at-risk adult or juvenile causing injury. The investigation is ongoing, with the possibility of additional criminal charges.
The families of the affected children, who reside in the Littleton School District, began to notice injuries and changes in behaviour in their children starting in September 2023. Due to the children’s non-verbal status, they were unable to communicate the abuse to their families. Ciara Anderson, an attorney with Rathod | Mohamedbhai LLC, highlighted the physical injuries observed by the families, including scratches, bruises, a lost tooth, a black eye, a broken toe, and other marks on their children’s bodies.
After repeated incidents of injuries, the families took action, leading to the discovery of the abuse inflicted by the bus aide. The law firm accused Littleton Public School District of failing to properly investigate and address the reports of abuse, allowing the misconduct to continue unchecked. The families continued to document injuries, with one child coming home with a busted lip and a lost tooth on Jan. 23, significant bruising to the neck on Feb. 13, and bruises on the foot on March 18.
During a press conference, the families shared their emotional responses to the abuse their children suffered. One family described the shock and horror of watching the video of the bus aide’s actions, expressing disbelief that someone they trusted could harm their child in such a manner. The parents demanded accountability and justice for their children, emphasizing the need for change and stricter procedures to ensure the safety of all students, especially those with special needs.

The second set of parents recounted their initial trust in the school district to protect their son, expressing their feelings of betrayal and failure to safeguard their child from harm. They called for greater accountability and screening of employees to prevent similar incidents in the future.
