A woman paraglider, identified as Ritu Chopra, met with a fatal accident shortly after taking off from the Bir-Billing hills in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh. The 56-year-old resident of Noida, and wife of retired Indian Air Force officer Ashutosh Chopra, was a seasoned paraglider with nine years of experience. The couple, who frequented the globally acclaimed paragliding site, had arrived in Bir-Billing just a few days before the tragic incident.

The Tragic Incident Unfolds
On the fateful day, both Ritu and Ashutosh were flying, with Ritu opting for a solo flight, deviating from the usual practice of having an expert accompany her. As per reports, Ashutosh, a resident of Noida Sector 25, was flying slightly higher in altitude than Ritu. Suddenly, a significant pocket of turbulent air struck Ritu’s glider and then Ashutosh’s. Due to his greater altitude, Ashutosh was less affected by the turbulence. Unfortunately, Ritu’s entire glider collapsed, causing her to plummet onto a mountain slope at an altitude of around 9,000 feet. The couple, who had been married for 34 years, had their joyride cut short by this tragic turn of events.
