A shocking incident unfolded at the Savitribai Phule Pune University in Pune City, Maharashtra, where a 19-year-old Muslim student, Junaid Jamadar, was brutally beaten by a mob who accused him of “love jihad”. The assailants allegedly assaulted Junaid, threatened to kill him, and even contacted his father, demanding that he cancel his son’s admission or face dire consequences.

The incident took place on a Sunday afternoon when Junaid was accompanying two female students on the university campus. In a video shared on social media, Junaid recounted how five unidentified men stopped them, asked for their identity cards, and upon discovering his Muslim identity, accused him of “love jihad”. They proceeded to physically assault him and issued threats against his life if he dared to return to the campus.
Not only did the mob target Junaid, but they also attacked his Hindu friend who was with him at the time. The situation escalated when the assailants called Junaid’s father, making violent threats and demanding that he withdraw his son from the university. Junaid bravely spoke out about the ordeal, leading to the police launching an investigation into the incident.
The police have registered a case against the unidentified attackers based on Junaid’s complaint. They are currently working to identify and apprehend the culprits responsible for this horrific act of violence. According to Junaid’s statement to the authorities, the attackers questioned him and his friend before resorting to physical violence, citing his Muslim identity as the reason for their aggression.
