The prosecution called Jessica Hunt, a forensic sciences services technician with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, as their first witness. Hunt detailed the processing of the crime scene at a storage unit in Mission Township where suspected blood and scrape marks were found. Items like a bleach bottle, paper towels, and a toiletry bag were processed, with human blood spatter discovered in three areas of interest.

Further investigation led to the discovery of a clandestine grave near Lake Edward, where Brogle’s body was found buried. Hunt’s team excavated the body and observed a defect at the base of Brogle’s skull. Additional evidence, such as a plastic bag with bleach-stained rags and latex gloves, was also found in the grave.

DNA testing technician Kathryn Roche testified about the DNA evidence found on various items, including the bleach bottle cap, the blood in the storage unit, and the gloves. The blood in the sled was matched to Brogle, further implicating LaFlex in the crime.

Dr. Victor Froloff, an assistant medical examiner, provided insight into Brogle’s cause of death, citing a gunshot wound to the back of the head. Froloff also noted signs of body movement after death, indicating a timeframe for the crime.

The state called Alexandra Urke, a tool marks and firearms technician, to confirm the bullet used in the murder was a .22 caliber. Despite this finding, the specific type of .22 cartridge could not be determined.

Jeffery Wohl testified about LaFlex’s rental of a U-Haul trailer around the time of the murder, shedding light on LaFlex’s activities leading up to the crime.

LaFlex faces charges of premeditated first-degree murder and second-degree felony murder, with the potential for life imprisonment. The grand jury indicted him on first-degree murder charges following the initial second-degree murder charge.

According to the criminal complaint, LaFlex initially claimed Brogle was arrested by unknown officers before changing his story and admitting to disposing of Brogle’s phones and body. An anonymous source provided details of the incident, alleging that LaFlex shot Brogle at the storage unit in response to alleged abuse of LaFlex’s daughter.

Law enforcement found blood and bleach at the storage unit, as well as marks consistent with a sled dragging across the floor. A search of public land uncovered Brogle’s body with a gunshot wound to the head, confirming the details provided by the anonymous source.

The trial is set to continue, with more witnesses expected to provide crucial testimony in the case. Stay tuned for further developments as the prosecution builds its case against Michael Lee LaFlex..
