In a recent development, the Delhi police successfully recovered the stolen SUV belonging to the wife of BJP President J.P. Nadda. The vehicle, a white Toyota Fortuner, was stolen from a service centre in Govindpuri, Delhi, on March 19. The investigation led to the arrest of three individuals identified as Shivansh Tripathi, Saleem, and Mohammad Raees, all residents of Uttar Pradesh.

Details of the Theft

The theft occurred when the driver of the SUV, Joginder, briefly left the vehicle at the service centre. The stolen car is registered in Himachal Pradesh in the name of J.P. Nadda’s wife, making it a high-profile case. The authorities were able to track down the auto-lifters and recover not only the stolen Fortuner but also another stolen Creta car used in the commission of the crime.

Police Investigation and Arrests

Following the filing of an e-FIR by Joginder, the case was transferred to the Anti-Auto Theft Squad of Southeast Delhi. A dedicated team was formed to investigate the incident, analyzing CCTV footage and following leads that eventually led them to Budkal in Haryana’s Faridabad. The breakthrough came when Shivansh Tripathi was apprehended near the Patiala House Court on March 22.

Background of the Accused

Tripathi, a resident of Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh, had dropped out of school due to his family’s financial struggles. He became involved with a gang that specialized in stealing luxury cars in Delhi-NCR. Tripathi confessed during interrogation that he, along with his associates, was responsible for the theft in Govindpuri.

Chain of Events Leading to Recovery

After stealing the SUV, the perpetrators took it to a farmhouse in Faridabad before selling it to Saleem, who then passed it on to Mohammad Raees. Raees, in turn, sold the vehicle to another individual. The police were able to trace the stolen SUV to Varanasi, where it was eventually recovered.
