NDLEA Arrests Drug Trafficker at Lagos Airport

In a recent operation, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have successfully apprehended a drug trafficker at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. The suspect, identified as Freeman Ogbonna, was attempting to board a flight to Delhi, India, when he was intercepted at the screening point of Terminal 2.

Discovery of Cocaine Ingestion

Freeman Ogbonna, who was bound for Delhi, India, via Doha on Qatar Airways, was found to have ingested 80 wraps of cocaine. The NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, revealed that Ogbonna was using a Liberian international passport with the name Carr Bismark. However, further investigation revealed his true identity as Freeman Ogbonna.

Risking His Life for a Promise

Despite the grave danger posed by ingesting such a large quantity of illicit drugs, Ogbonna admitted to taking the risk in exchange for a promise of a N300,000 reward upon successful delivery of the consignment in India. He claimed that he was recruited into drug trafficking by a relative who offered him the cash incentive.

Further Interceptions by NDLEA

In addition to Ogbonna’s arrest, NDLEA officers at the Lagos airport intercepted another drug mule, Imran Olalekan, who was travelling to Oman with concealed drugs in his check-in luggage and backpack. The agency also made a significant seizure of 2,144 parcels of Colorado, a synthetic strain of cannabis, at the Tincan seaport in Lagos.

Re-Arrest of a Fugitive

The anti-narcotics agency also re-arrested a 48-year-old suspect, Gidado Sani, in Kano, who had jumped bail on drug offence charges. Sani was found with 85 blocks of cannabis weighing 50.1kg. Additionally, NDLEA operatives in Ogun State apprehended a suspect, Wasiu Jimoh, with 84 parcels of cannabis sativa during a raid operation in Ilese Awo.
