Community Outrage and Calls for Justice
Members of the Somali community have expressed outrage over the shooting, stating that police could have used alternative methods to subdue Hirsi. In response to the incident, they have planned to hold Hirsi’s funeral at the Muslim Association of British Columbia mosque in Surrey on Tuesday at 1:20 pm PT. Following the funeral, a candlelight vigil will be held in front of First United Church in East Hastings.
Hirsi’s mother and family are expected to attend the funeral and vigil, as the community comes together to mourn the loss of a young life.
