BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. — Deadly Crash Under Investigation by North Carolina Highway Patrol
The North Carolina Highway Patrol is currently investigating a tragic incident that took place in Buncombe County. Troopers were alerted to a fatal crash that occurred on the off-ramp of exit 53B on Interstate 40 late Saturday night.

Details of the Crash
A 2015 Volvo passenger car was travelling east on I-40 when the driver made the decision to take exit 53B. Unfortunately, the vehicle was moving at a high rate of speed, causing the driver to lose control. The car veered off the left side of the road and collided with a tree. Tragically, there were six occupants in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Victims of the Crash
Regrettably, two of the passengers did not survive the impact. The victims have been identified as 16-year-old Sophia Gordan from Charlotte, North Carolina, and 19-year-old Robert Fox from Wilmette, Illinois. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families during this difficult time.
