police Response and Investigation

Following the report of shots fired, officers from the CHP’s Modesto Area office swiftly responded to the scene. The victims flagged down a CHP officer after exiting the freeway, leading to the identification of the suspect vehicle. Subsequently, the vehicle was spotted by law enforcement on Dianne Drive, where it was traveling at a high speed. It was later determined that there were two shooting scenes – one on the freeway and another on city streets as the suspect vehicle pursued the victims. The CHP took charge of the investigation due to the origin of the shooting on the freeway.

Arrest and Subsequent Actions

After identifying Leinweber as the suspect, a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was apprehended on March 26 at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation parole office in Merced. Later that day, law enforcement personnel executed a search warrant at Leinweber’s residence, detaining his girlfriend, Rebecca Lee Tallon, on suspicion of being an accessory to the shooting and weapons violations. Tallon was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on various charges, including accessory to a felony and possession of a loaded firearm.

Gratitude and Continued Investigation

The CHP expressed gratitude towards the public and witnesses who provided vital information leading to the arrest of Leinweber. They also thanked the Turlock Police Department and CDCR Parole for their assistance in bringing the suspect to justice. Investigators recovered a loaded pistol with a high-capacity magazine during the search of Leinweber’s residence. The parole violation against Leinweber stemmed from a previous incident in January 2021, where he shot a woman at a Turlock motel. Leinweber was arrested and pleaded guilty to the shooting in February of the same year.

By delving deeper into the details of the incident and the subsequent arrest of the suspect, law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of the community.
