Chaos and Opposition during the Arrest

The arrest operation faced strong opposition from local residents in East Medinipore, who attempted to obstruct the NIA team’s efforts. The crowd’s aggressive behaviour led to a confrontation that resulted in the injury of an NIA officer and damage to their vehicle. Despite the chaos, the NIA successfully apprehended Maity and Jana, who were allegedly involved in a plot to manufacture and detonate crude bombs to instill fear and panic.

The Tragic Bhupatinagar Blast Case

The Bhupatinagar blast case, which claimed the lives of three individuals in December 2022, was a harrowing incident that shook the community. The explosion occurred in the house of Rajkumar Manna in village Naruabilla, resulting in the tragic deaths of Manna, Biswajit Gayen, and Buddhadeb Manna. The initial investigation by state police did not apply the provisions of the Explosive Substances Act, prompting a legal intervention that led to the NIA taking over the case.

Role of the NIA in the Investigation

Following a writ petition filed before the High Court at Calcutta, the NIA assumed control of the Bhupatinagar blast case and initiated a thorough investigation. Through diligent efforts, the agency uncovered the involvement of multiple individuals, including Manobrata Jana and Balai Charan Maity, in the conspiracy to manufacture explosive devices. The arrests of Jana and Maity mark a significant milestone in the case, with both individuals set to face legal proceedings in Kolkata.

Next Steps in the Legal Process

As per the NIA’s statement, the arrested individuals will be presented before the Special NIA Court in Kolkata to undergo due legal process. The agency remains committed to pursuing justice in the Bhupatinagar blast case and holding all responsible parties accountable for their actions. The arrests of Maity and Jana serve as a crucial step towards unraveling the complexities of the case and bringing closure to the families affected by the tragic events of December 2022.
