It was a dark and tragic night in Woodland, California, when the peaceful neighbourhood of Ashley Avenue was shattered by the sound of gunshots. The Woodland police Dispatch received multiple reports of shots being fired in the area, prompting officers to rush to the scene. As they arrived, they were met with a chilling sight – an adult male victim, approximately 30 years old, lying in the backyard of a residence with life-threatening injuries from gunshot wounds. Despite the valiant efforts of the officers to treat his wounds, the male tragically succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Suspect Apprehended:
In the days following the heinous crime, diligent investigators from the Woodland Police Department, in collaboration with the Yolo County Sheriff’s Department and the West Sacramento Police Department, made significant progress in the case. Their efforts bore fruit when, on the same day of the murder, a 31-year-old Woodland resident named Rigoberto Torres was stopped and detained. A search warrant was swiftly executed at Torres’ residence, leading to the recovery of two rifles, one of which is believed to be the murder weapon pending forensic testing. Torres, who provided the firearm to the primary suspect before the shooting, was arrested on charges of murder and possession of an assault rifle. He was promptly booked into the Yolo County Jail.
Additional Arrest:
On April 4, a crucial development unfolded when Joseph Dyer turned himself in at the Yolo County Sheriff’s Department in connection to the murder case. The swift action of the officers led to Dyer’s arrest without incident. Vandalism Incident:

In the early hours of April 3, officers responded to reports of a female subject causing havoc in the area of Ashley Avenue and Riverside Drive. Upon arrival, they discovered several vehicles that had been vandalized, with damage to various vehicle parts amounting to nearly $2,000 in total.
Arrest and Charges:
The perpetrator behind this senseless act of vandalism was identified as Britney Lucena, a 37-year-old Sacramento resident. Lucena was swiftly apprehended by the officers and transported to the Yolo County Jail, where she was booked on charges of felony vandalism.
