In a heart-wrenching incident, four people lost their lives in a tragic road accident in Kolhapur. The victims, including a three-year-old girl and a teenager, were part of a group of sugar cane cutters and their family members from Solapur’s Mangalwedha. They were returning home after completing three-and-a-half months of work in the cane fields.

The fatal collision occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning at Agalgaon Phata, along the Nagpur-Ratnagiri National Highway in Sangli’s Kavathe Mahankal tehsil. The group’s tractor had broken down and was parked on the side of the road for repairs when a truck from Andhra Pradesh collided with their vehicle.

The deceased have been identified as 30-year-old Shalan Khandekar, Jagamma Hegde (35), Dada Evale (17), and Nilabai Evale (3). Tragically, they all lost their lives at the scene of the accident. Additionally, ten other individuals sustained injuries and were rushed to Miraj Civil Hospital for treatment.

In April 2017, a family from Kolhapur’s Valivade village was involved in a collision at the same location while returning from a pilgrimage to Pandharpur. Seven individuals lost their lives when the mini-bus they were traveling in collided with a parked truck.
