Man Shot by police During Chase in Northeast DC
A man was shot by a police officer during a chase in Northeast D.C. on Monday night, prompting an investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD). The incident took place in the 2100 block of Bladensburg Road around 9 p.m. when investigators from the Violent Crime Suppression Division’s Robbery Suppression Unit witnessed an argument unfolding.

The Chase and Shooting
According to reports, the investigators spotted a man holding a gun and attempted to intervene. The man, later identified as 31-year-old Deion Hinnant of Northeast D.C., fled the scene. The officers gave chase and repeatedly instructed Hinnant to show his hands. However, he refused to comply and allegedly turned towards the investigators, prompting one of them to open fire.
Severe Injuries and Arrest
Following the shooting, DC Fire and EMS rushed Hinnant to the hospital with serious injuries. The police officers were able to recover the firearm Hinnant had been carrying. After receiving medical treatment, Hinnant was arrested and charged with assault on a police officer, carrying a pistol without a license, possession of an unregistered firearm, possession of unregistered ammunition, and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.

As per MPD policy, the investigators involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave. The body-worn camera footage from the incident will be released at a later date. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is also assisting in the ongoing investigation.
