In a recent turn of events, the Criminal Court approved a police request for an arrest warrant for Pol Gen Surachate Hakparn, also known as Big Joke, the embattled deputy national police chief. The warrant was issued for his alleged collusion in the laundering of money from a gambling network. The Metropolitan Police Bureau (MPB) investigators filed the application for the warrant, citing violations of the Anti-Money Laundering Act.

Failed Attempts to Deliver Summonses

Despite three separate summonses issued for Pol Gen Surachate to report for questioning, investigators were unable to physically deliver them to him. The court ruled that there was sufficient evidence to support the request for an arrest warrant, as the subject had evaded receiving the summonses. This led to the approval of the warrant by the Criminal Court.

Previous Arrest Warrants Issued

On March 12, the court approved warrants for the arrest of three police officers and a civilian in connection with the money laundering activities related to the BNK Master gambling website. Pol Col Kittichai Sangkhathaworn, Pol Sgt Natthawut Wadwaew, Pol Sgt Natthan Chuchak, and Napansakorn Haekerd were identified as suspects. Additionally, a summons was approved for Pol Gen Surachate.

Letters Seeking Justice

Reports surfaced that Pol Gen Surachate had submitted a letter to the chief justice of the Criminal Court inquiring about a police request for his arrest. Another letter from Pol Lt Col Krit Pariyaket sought justice from the Department of Special Investigation, requesting the handling of his criminal investigation by Tao Poon police station. The DSI was asked to accept the case as a special investigation due to the nature of the allegations.

Confirmation of the Arrest Warrant

At 4.40pm, Pol Lt Col Sarawut Buddee, deputy chief for investigation at Sai Mai police station and head of the BNK Master investigation team, confirmed the approval of the arrest warrant by the Criminal Court. Pol Gen Surachate could be arrested immediately upon discovery. The ongoing investigation into the money laundering activities involving over 300 million baht has taken a significant step forward with the issuance of the warrant.
